![]() Now, with GH Live on my Xbox 360 I have to use a different controller to turn it on (or press power on the front). I know the GH guitars acted like a Wii remote extension and you'd stick a Wii remote inside, where Rock Band needed a USB dongle (I think PS2, also)īut on Xbox 360 and PS3 it most definitely did act like a real controller and would turn your system on and off. mostly Nintendo's fault for not allowing third-party controllers. ![]() I don't know about the Wii, because that was a bit different. The Rock Band/GH controllers (not counting the GH Live redesigned one) would power on the systems once you've synced them. I can take some photos too, I like having information easily available online and so far I can only speak from my own copies and watching random YouTube videos. I presume it's longer on the Xbox consoles because the USB port is recessed into the console so you'd have to use tweezers to pry out the tiny length one if you tried to use it. Unsure if the PS3/Wii U's will work with the PS4 though. Unboxing videos seem to show that the PS4 also has a unique one, longer in length like the Xbox 360 but with a blue button. Xbox 360 has a unique one (possibly Microsoft's fault?) that does not work on the Xbox One and it looks like the Xbox One has a unique one as well. I've seen photos of the PS3 set and it looks identical to the Wii U's, additionally I can plug the Wii U's into my PS3 and the guitar will control the menus. In short - Wii U and PS3 have the same dongle. On the Xbox 360 you CAN control the console menus with the guitar, but the Wii U dongle does NOT work with it, it doesn't even light up. Not sure if that's how the legit one behaves or not as I don't own the XB1 set. you just can't do anything with it at that point. However, what's odd is that on the Xbox One, it pairs with the guitar, assigns it a controller number. Wii U dongle does NOT work on Xbox 360 or Xbox One. I haven't even touched the Wii U's guitar, only the 360 one, and it works fine on the Wii U/PS3, you just have to re-pair it with the other dongle. Works with the PS3! So for the first time, the controllers are (kind-of) cross-platform (if only you could buy the game digitally and not need the disc that forces you to buy a plastic guitar too) Wii U: This dongle is about half the size. This dongle does NOT work on the Wii U, PS3, or Xbox One (I don't own a PS4) The button on the back is GREEN and the plastic says XBOX 360 on it. I'd buy them all but I'm not made of cash. I bought the single-guitar+game packs for Xbox 360 and Wii U. ![]() I know there's always Clone Hero, but there's something about experiencing these games within the original "package".I didn't see any sort of definitive guides or answers on this so I took to playing around myself to see what I could find. ![]() It also reminded of how interesting the GHTV experiment was, with the promise of infinite songs to play for free.Īnyway, GHTV being emulated and the news that community made adapters have finally unlocked the ability to use old guitar controllers with Rock Band 4 has maybe lead to a small renaissance of the two games. This was a neat excuse to break out the guitar again and relive the experience of the game as it was when it was still active. It's currently supported via modded WiiU and PS3 emulation and you can find more info here: It features leaderboards, and perhaps most importantly, new songs being added as well as the ability to give yourself infinite Hero Cash. and the result is that GHTV is now fully back online and works exactly as it did when the service was live. I'm not really tapped into the guitar game scene, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that a group of fans had been working on a way to create a custom private server for Guitar Hero Live.
